High school girls golf in Nevada brings to mind nice August weather conditions with an abundance of green grass and warm temperatures.
That would be in a normal year.
Due to the seasons being adjusted by the NIAA because of Covid-19, the girls in the Northern 3A got a chance to experience what their boy counterparts see at the beginning of March with brown, dormant grass.
Mother Nature was in a great mood on Friday, as the Lowry girls golf team hosted three other Northern 3A schools in sunny and warm conditions.
Lowry took advantage of its home course to win the tournament with a team total of 412.
Elko was second at 433 and Spring Creek placed third at 435.
Churchill County had just three golfers and did not have enough players for a team total.
Dayton and Fernley did not field any players.
Elko’s Gabby Bement ran away with the individual title with a round of 83.
Lowry freshman, Piper Nichols, playing in her first high school tournament was second at 97.
Lowry junior Bailey Hayes was third overall at 98 and senior Angelina Martinez was fourth overall at 99.
In all, the Lady Bucks had three of its four golfers place in the top five. Kaitlin Hales rounded out the Buckaroo scores at 118.
Spring Creek’s Jaedin Martinez and Holland Miller each shot 106 to tie for fifth place.
Lowry was back in action on Tuesday in Fernley. Results were not available at press time.
Lowry travels to Dayton on Thursday, March 18. The Buckaroos move on to Fallon on March 23 and close out the season in Elko County, at Spring Creek on March 30 and Elko on April 5.
