It was a mixed bag of results for the Lowry High School girls soccer team, who returned to the field for the first time in 15 months.

Lowry hosted Spring Creek on Friday afternoon and suffered a 4-0 loss to the Spartans.

The Lady Bucks were  on the road Saturday morning to play at Fernley and left Lyon County with a 3-3 tie against the Vaqueros.

“It has been really great being back playing soccer again after so much time off,” said LHS coach Misty Stene . “We have things to work on, but I’m so proud of how the girls have come together and played so well these first two games so far.”

On Friday in Winnemucca, Spring Creek scored in the 8th minute of the contest on a shot by Payge Walz.

That was the lone goal of the opening 40 minutes, as the Lowry defense picked up and sophomore Abigail Magana made a number of saves for the Lady Bucks.

Lowry’s Bailee Brinkerhoff had the Lady Bucks’ best scoring chance in the 33rd minute, but the shot was just to the side of the net.

Spring Creek scored two minutes into the second half and added goals by Avery Beattys and Chloe Zuraff in the 58th and 65th minute, respectively.

In the past, a trip to Fernley meant playing on the quick filed turf, which is also used for football.

However, last summer, a sudden thunderstorm in Fernley caused mud, rocks and water to cover the field.

Due to insurance problems, the field still hasn’t been repaired.

That forced the two teams to a grass field on campus.

Lowry grabbed a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes of play, but Fernley reversed the tables in the second half and scored twice to come back for the tie.

Elizabeth Aguilar scored two goals for Lowry and Bailee Brinkerhoff scored one.

Lowry hosts Elko on Wednesday at 2 p.m. and travels to Dayton on Friday,

“I’m looking forward to seeing our progression throughout this season,” Stene said.
