The Lowry High School volleyball team hit the floor for the first time in this shortened six-week schedule with a pair of matches.
Lowry hosted Spring Creek on a late Friday night, as the Lady Bucks honored their seven seniors on senior night. The Spartans played spoiler, winning 25-18, 25-19 and 26-24.
After the late night, Lowry boarded the bus for the first time this year on Saturday morning and was beaten 25-12, 25-14 and 25-10 by Fernley.
Against Spring Creek, Lowry took it first lead in the opening set at 3-2 on a kill by Reece Kalkoske.
The Spartans came back with the next four points to go in front by three, when Lowry turned the tables once again and used a pair of kills by Alexis Olson to lead 12-10.
That would be the last advantage for Lowry, as Spring Creek scored the next seven points, forcing the Lady Bucks to a call a timeout in an attempt to stop the momentum.
Kalkoske and Kailey Franklin added kills late in the set, but the Spartans kept the advantage at four to five points to win the set.
Spring Creek used that momentum at the end of the first set and scored eight of the first 10 points of the second set. Evan Andradottir ended the early run with a kill at 8-2. Andradottir added two more kills and an ace to bring the Lady Bucks all the way back to a 13-13 tie.
After a Spring Creek timeout, the Spartans answered with six straight points and did not trail again. Kayleen Urain, Kalkoske and Andradottir had kills toward the end of the set, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
The Lady Bucks got off to another slow start in the third set, as the Spartans scored 10 of the first 13 points. A Lowry timeout did not stop the Spring Creek run, as they extended the margin to 18-9.
Trailing by nine points is where the Lowry rally started.
The Lady Bucks reeled off five straight points to cut the deficit to 18-14. Spring Creek scored the next two points to increase the lead back to six.
That lead shrunk in half after back-to-back kills by Shanae Smith and Kalkoske and dwindled to 22-21 after consecutive aces by Andradottir.
The set was tied twice at 22 and 23, when Lowry took its first lead at 24-23.
The Lady Bucks could not convert set point, as Spring Creek won the final two points to secure the match win.
In a schedule change, Lowry will host Elko on Thursday and travel to Dayton on March 12. The three-match road trip continues in Fallon on March 19 and Spring Creek, March 20.
The Lady Bucks return home on March 26-27 to host Fernley and Dayton, respectively.
