After a long wait, the Battle Mountain girls golf team hit the links for the first time with a trip to West Wendover last Thursday.
In the first appearnce of the year, the Lady Longhorns posted a number of strong scores.
"It was great that we actually got to play golf," said BMHS coach Jayson Cutler. "It was unique wearing masks around the club house, but everyone was well adjusted to it.
Destiny Villenueva finished third overall for the Lady Longhorns with a round of 113.
"The morning started off cold and windy but calmed down by 11," added the coach. "After that, the weather cooperated nicely."
Ariana Robles finished in seventh place at 34, one stoke out of medaling.
Senior Savanah Grant had a great performance, according to the coach.
"This was her first golf tournament ever," Cutler said. "Overall the girls did fantastic considering we have had very minimal practices.
Cutler said the team had just one day to actually putt on a putting green prior to the tournament.
"With as fast as West Wendover's greens were rolling, I was impressed with their scores," Cutler said.
Battle Mountain hosts the 2A tournament on Thursday,
"I look forward to see how well we can improve in a week and home course advantage," Cutler said.
