Garijo, DeLong win events at Pahrump High School rodeo

The Nevada High School Rodeo Association started up its spring portion of the schedule on Feb. 20-21 in Pahrump. A pair of Humboldt County Rodeo Club members claimed average wins over the weekend.

Emma Garijo was first in the pole bending average with a combined time of 41.996 seconds. She was second in the first go-around at 20.891 and she won the second go-around with a time of 21.105.

She was the runner-up in the barrel racing two-day average at 32.821. Lincoln County’s Wylee Mitchell claimed the average top spot at 32.170. Garijo was first in the first go-around at 16.410 and third in the second go-around in a time of 16.571. In addition Garijo was 13th in the breakaway roping average.  

Lexi Garijo placed fifth in the barrel racing average in a time of 33.460.

She had top-10 finishes in both go-arounds. Garijo was 11th in the breakaway roping average at 17.640, which included a fourth-place outing in the first go-around.

Garijo and Fernley’s Kaden Florez were third in team roping. The duo had a time of 9.860 in the first go-around and no time in the second go-around.

Sierra Fears placed seventh in the pole bending average at 45.326. She had times of 22.587 and 22.739 in her performances. Fears added a 15th-place finish in the barrel racing average at 34.088. Saydee Hill placed seventh in the rifle shoot.

Emma Garijo is currently fourth in the all-around standings.

On the boys side for Humboldt County participants, Billy DeLong won the steer wrestling average at 44.280. DeLong was fourth in the first go-around with a time of 28.470 and second in the second go-around at 15.540. Just two competitors had success in the second performance.

DeLong placed second in the boys cutting average with a score of 130 and he was sixth in tie-down roping at 43.030. He had a fourth-place finish in the second go-around of tie-down roping at 14.270.

Isaac Mori placed second with a ride of 54 points in the saddle bronc. Mori was fifth in boys cutting with 122.5 points.

DeLong is fourth in the all-around standings and Mori is seventh.

Cooper Hill had a pair of top-10 finishes in the rifle and trap shoot.

Battle Mountain Rodeo Club

Members of the Battle Mountain Rodeo Club had outstanding performances in Pahrump as well.

Amelia Lancaster was third in the barrel racing average at 33.060, on the strength of two fourth-place outings in each go-around. 

Emma Lemaire, Desatoya Coombs and Jolena Ayers were sixth, seventh and eight in barrel racing. Italy Jo Holman was 14th in the average.

Lancaster placed eighth in the breakaway average, aided by winning the first go-around at 3.19, Coombs was 12th in the breakaway average and Holman was 24th. 

Holman and Lancaster were third and fourth, respectively in girls cutting. Holman had 138 points and Lancaster 136. Lancaster and Ayers placed 13th and 14th in the goat tying average.   

Lemaire was fourth in the pole bending average at 43.500, as six Battle Mountain riders placed in the top 13. Holman placed sixth, Gracie Lou Holman was seventh, Lancaster eighth, Coombs ninth and Ayers 13th.

The Holman’s grabbed the top spot in team roping with an average time of 40.750.

Lancaster is fifth in the all-round standings and Gracie Lou Holman is sixth.

On the junior high side, Humboldt County’s Matti DeLong won the girls breakaway roping with an average of 8.090. DeLong and Natalie Mori were 17th and 18th in barrel racing. Mori was 12th in the breakaway average. DeLong added a fourth-place outing in pole bending and a sixth-place finish in the goat tying average. In addition, she was fifth in ribbon roping.

Lane Byrd was third in boys cutting, third in team roping and fifth in boys breakaway roping.

Battle Mountain’s Jorja Mashburn placed 10th in girls goat tying, 12th in pole bending, 13th in girls breakaway roping and 15th in barrel racing.

Battle Mountain’s Eli Lancaster placed third in boys breakaway roping.     

The Nevada High School Rodeo Association is back in action on March 12-14 in Fernley. 

Winnemucca will host its event on April 30-May 2. The junior high and state finals will be in Winnemucca on May 27-30.
