Fall sports season under way

The calendar says March, but fall high school sports are in full swing in Northern Nevada. 

Last summer the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association moved the calendar around and placed fall sports in March and April due to Covid-19 and the restrictions that were in place. 

The first games in almost a year start this weekend. The only fans allowed to attend games are family members of the student/athletes that are playing. No other fans are allowed at this time. Fans are not allowed to attend visiting games as well. 

The Lowry football team will host Elko on Saturday, with the JV kicking off at 12:30 p.m. and the varsity at 3 p.m. 

The Lowry volleyball team will be in action twice over the weekend. The Lady Bucks host Elko on Friday, with matches starting at 5 p.m. Lowry travels to Fernley on Saturday, with the action beginning at 10 a.m.

The Lowry girls soccer team hosts Spring Creek on Friday, with the varsity playing at 2 p.m. and the JV will follow. Only the varsity squad will travel to Fernley on Saturday for an 11:45 a.m. start.

The Lowry boys soccer team travels to Spring Creek on Friday for a varsity only match at 2 p.m. The Buckaroos host Fernley on Saturday at 10 a.m., starting with the JV game. The varsity plays at 11:45 a.m.

The Lowry cross country team took part in a scrimmage in Dayton on Tuesday. The Buckaroos travel to Elko on Tuesday, March. 9. Lowry is scheduled to host meets on March 23 and March 30.

Weather and course conditions permitting, the Lowry girls golf team will be at Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course on Friday.

The McDermitt volleyball and football team are scheduled to be in Eureka on Friday. The Lady Bulldogs move on to play Owyhee on Saturday.

McDermitt is scheduled to be at home on Saturday, March 13 to host Carlin.  

The Pershing County football team hosts Coral Academy on Friday at 7 p.m. The Lady Mustangs’ volleyball team will be in Yerington on Friday and the Pershing County girls soccer team is in Yerington on Saturday.

The Battle Mountain High School football team will take part in a scrimmage this weekend and travel to West Wendover on March 12 to start the season.

The Battle Mountain girls golf team travels to West Wendover on Thursday and play on its home course on March 11.

The Battle Mountain girls and boys soccer teams are scheduled to host White Pine on Saturday. The Lady Longhorns play at 11 a.m., followed by the boys match.

The Battle Mountain volleyball team will host West Wendover on Friday, with the JV starting at 4 p.m. and the varsity at 5 p.m.
