Strong named among Top 25 QBs of 2021

RENO — Nevada quarterback Carson Strong was named to The Sporting News’ “Top 25 QBs of 2021” list, checking in at No. 15.

Strong, the only Mountain West quarterback to make the list, is coming off a 2020 campaign in which he was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Year and to its First Team.

In 2020, he paced the Mountain West in passing yards (2,858), passing touchdowns (27), completion percentage (70.1), and ranked in the FBS top 10 in completions per game (27.7, second), passing yards per game (317.6, seventh), completion percentage (seventh), and touchdown passes (ninth), while coming in 11th in passing yards.

Strong also finished the year with an interception rate of just 1.13, throwing just four picks over 355 attempts.

The honor is yet another for the Wolf Pack signal-caller ahead of the 2021 season, as he was named to Athlon Sports’ Preseason All-Mountain West First Team in late May.

Nevada, which went 7-2 last year and captured the 2020 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl with a 38-27 victory over Tulane, opens the 2021 campaign Saturday, Sept. 4, at California.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. on FS1.
