Lovelock Softball Association slides toward end of season

This Thursday, the Lovelock Softball Association names its 2021 league championship team.

The title game starts at 8 p.m. at McDougal Park.

On Monday, July 26, the LSA hosted their last regular games of the season.

The teams competed for seeds four through six, with Bats N Racks occupying seventh seed.

So far, defending champ Thick N Wild has locked up first place — followed by Second Stringers and Wolf Pack. The results of Monday’s games were not available at press time.

Seeds two through seven compete on Wednesday, Jul. 28, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. The winners face Thick N Wild in the semifinals on Thursday, Jul. 29, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

The championship game starts at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jul. 29. Expect the competition to heat up.

“We’ve had a lot of close games with two ties throughout the season,” said league president Jared Jensen. “Many games went a full seven innings because of how clean a defense the teams played.”

Frontier Days

 softball tournament

Jesse Canchola is organizing a coed softball tournament at McDougal Field over Frontier Days weekend, Aug. 6-8.

“I want to help bring people to town. Hopefully they’ll go to the park and spend money,” he said. So far, ten teams have signed up. Canchola is aiming for twelve. Cash prizes will add to the excitement.

The tournament will include a home run derby on Aug. 6 at 9 p.m.

“I wanted to bring something back to Lovelock. I can’t remember a time in my life when Lovelock ran a softball tournament. I’m tired of the ‘it’s just Lovelock’ comments. Why can’t we?” he asked. “I want people from afar to come enjoy our wonderful, small town.”
