Union Township Justice Court

Items in the Court Docket are compiled from public records contained in the Union Township Justice Court and the Sixth Judicial District Court. The Humboldt Sun reports all felony hearings, misdemeanor convictions and dismissals for which the court releases information. When requested by the individual, the Sun will post the person’s mug shot with their court disposition.

June 22

Oswaldo Sanchez was charged with misdemeanor failure to report an accident. DDA Mark Shackley dismissed the citation.



James Patrick was charged with misdemeanor petit larceny. 

On April 26, Patrick entered a not guilty plea at the counter and requested to speak with the DA’s office.

On June 22 the county made a motion to dismiss the case, the court granted the county’s motion and the case was dismissed.



Deidre Dawn Guerro was charged with misdemeanor driving without a valid drivers license, failure/refusal to surrender plates, resident w/non-Nevada drivers license, and resident operating vehicle without Nevada registration. 

On May 17, the defendant requested to speak with the Da’s office. At the court date on June 22, the citations were dismissed by DDA Mark Shackley.



Gary Lee Hartley was charged with misdemeanor basic speed too fast for conditions, driving on a suspended/revoked license, and driving without a seatbelt. On April 12, 2021 the defendant failed to appear for his arraignment hearing. On May 26 the defendant paid Black Jack fee to recall the bench warrant. On June 22, the citation was dismissed by Mark Shackley.



Shane Nixon was charged with misdemeanor suspended license plates. On June 22, 2021 Deputy DA Mark Shockley dismissed the violation on the citation.



Stephanie Lange was charged with misdemeanor driving with suspended/revoked license, no proof of insurance, and expiration and renewal of registration. On June 22, 2021 Deputy DA Mark Shockley dismissed the violations on the citation.



June 23

Darren Briones was charged with misdemeanor trespassing. 

On April 19, 2021 the defendant entered a guilty plea at the counter. Briones was not present at the original sentencing hearing on June 1, 2021. 

The court issued a cash only/humboldt county only bench warrant in the amount of $395. On June 9, the warrant was served and sentencing was reset to June 23. 

On June 23, the defendant was present at the sentencing hearing and entered a guilty plea to both counts. 

The court canvassed the defendant’s plea and accepted the same. The court rules as follows: fine $1,000 + $140 AA for a total of $1,140. The court suspended the fines and fees for 1 year. 



Darren Chaves Briones was charged with misdemeanor trespassing and injury to other property. Briones was not present at the original sentencing hearing on June 1, 2021.

The court issued a cash only/humboldt county only bench warrant in the amount of $1,535. On June 9, the warrant was served and sentencing was reset to June 23. On June 23, the defendant was present at the sentencing hearing and entered a guilty plea to both counts. 

The court canvassed the defendant’s plea and accepted the same. The court rules as follows: The defendant was given credit for 15 days time served.



June 24

Mark Brett Wilson was charged with misdemeanor domestic battery first offense. On July 20, 2021 the defendant entered a plea of not guilty and requested court appointed counsel. 

On November 19, 2020 the parties were unable to resolve the case and requested to proceed with the jury trial. 

On December 14, 2020 due to covid the parties agreed to reset the jury trial. 

On May 18, 2021 the pretrial was set for May 27, 2021 to allow the parties time to discuss any pre trial matters prior to the jury trial. Both parties agreed off the record to reset the pretrial for June 3, 2021. 

On June 3, 2021 the hearing was held. The defendant was not present. His court appointed public defender was present on his behalf. The parties stipulated to vacate the jury trial that is set for June 23, 2021. The defendant is going to enter a change of plea. On June 24, 2021 the sentencing hearing was held. 

The defendant was present with the alternate public defender Derrick Penny. They completed the domestic battery admonishment. The defendant entered a no contest plea.

The court accepted the plea and rule as follows: fined $200 + $105 AA + $35 special assessment fee for a total $340. 

The defendant was set up on a monthly payment play of $50 per month, first payment 08/01/2021. 30 days jail with 28 days stayed for a period of 1 year.

 He is to serve the remaining 2 days. The defendant was given credit for 2 days time served. Defendant was ordered 48 hours community service to be completed within the next year. 26 sessions of battery intervention counseling with monthly reports to the court. 

The defendant was admonished that pursuant to NRS 176.337 possession, shipment, transportation or receipt of firearm or ammunition may constitute a felony. The order to surrender firearms was completed. 



Emily Marie Caudill was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance. 

On May 13, 2021 Caudill made her first appearance, a criminal complaint was filed on May 17, 2020 and she was released on own recognizance on May 18, 2021.

On June 24, 2021 a hearing was held. The DA amended the criminal complaint to reflect NRS 454.351 drugs not be introduced into interstate commerce. The defendant entered a no contest plea to the amended criminal complaint. 

The court ruled as follows: 60 days in the Humboldt County Detention Center with 60 days suspended for 1 year on the condition the defendant have no violations of the law other than minor traffic violations. The defendant was ordered to pay a fine of $385 + $115 AA for a total of $500. She was set up on a payment plan of $50 per month.
