The court acknowledged a mental competency report from Lake’s Crossing on Debony Lanier Maffett II. It said that he’s competent to proceed to trial. Maffett was remanded to jail. He’ll appear in the Justice Court for further proceedings.
Jake Owen Bokori previously pleaded no contest to possessing a controlled substance (methamphetamine) in Lovelock on Feb. 14, 2021. He allegedly had paraphernalia (a pipe) that tested positive for residue. He faced mandatory probation.
The judge gave Bokori 12 to 36 months in the Nevada Department of Corrections, suspended. He’ll serve 18 months of probation with an additional year to accomplish treatment objectives if needed.
As conditions of probation, Bokori must enroll in a substance abuse treatment program and is subject to random urinalysis testing.
He chose not to enroll in drug court, a diversionary program with more requirements than regular probation. Those who complete the program can withdraw their guilty pleas.
The court continued Javier Valtierra’s hearing until July 7.
Two men graduated from the drug court program and were allowed to withdraw their guilty pleas. One of them completed the requirements without any sanctions.
Both sides of the bench described the graduate as a “great father, great friend, great drug court participant and an exemplary model of sobriety.”
