Lt Cmdr David M Burt passed away on January 6, 2021 at home in Priest River Idaho; he was 69 years old.
Lt Cmdr Burt was born on September 22, 1951 in Winnemucca, Nevada, he was the second child born to Sam and Betty (Smith) Burt.
He spent his childhood in Imlay and later moved with his parents to Unionville. He attended high school in Lovelock, graduating in 1969.
He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1970. In 1972 he was accepted into the NESEP program receiving training for service onboard nuclear powered submarines.
The Navy sent him to the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque where he earned a degree in electrical engineering in 1975 and was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy.
He served on the USS George Bancroft and the Tang and at naval stations up and down the east coast. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Marywood College in 1994, and retired from the Navy in 1995.
After leaving the Navy, Mr. Burt worked for Tobyhanna Army Depot in Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania.
While working in the production engineering division at the Depot, he worked as project manager for the modular integrated communications and navigation system and worked on Joint Stars and other projects..
He retired from the Tobyhanna Army Depot in 2006.
Mr Burt served in many positions within his Church, including a two year mission as a FamilySearch missionary, helping many find success in their search for their ancestors.
He served in both the Palmyra New York and Spokane Washington Temples for several years.
He also served as a Cub master, Scout master, and various other leadership positions.
However, his real enjoyment came from his family. Lt Cmdr Burt is survived by his wife Pamela (Chakiris) Burt.
They were married on January 6, 1973 in Jermyn, Pennsylvania.
He is also survived by his children, Peter (Angie) Burt, Fredericksburg, Va, John (Wendy) Burt, Joseph (Lovely) Burt, both of Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, Melissa (Max) Estes of New Gloucester, Maine, Rachel (Rick) Mrak of Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, Elizabeth (Jesse) Burtz of San Jose, California, Matthew (Melissa) Burt, Rebekah Burt, both of Pennsylvania, Abigail (William) Busenbark of Priest River, Idaho and 22 grandchildren.
In addition he is survived by his sisters, Donna Harmon, Aztec, NM, and Barbara Burt, Boise, Id, and brother William (Trish) Burt, Winnemucca, Nev. and many nieces and nephews.
Burial services occurred on January 9, 2021 in Priest River, Idaho. A memorial service is planned for July of this year
