Obituary: David Houston Weaver

David Houston Weaver was born On December 29, 1936 in Coleman County, Texas to Clarence and Faustina Weaver. He was number nine of their ten children. The family moved to California where David attended both elementary and high school in the Merced County School District.

David’s various jobs took him from California where he owned a doughnut shop to Nevada where he managed restaurants, and met Zula Rogers in Carson City. They married on October 4, 1957.  David and Zula had three children together. Valerie, Dianna and David Jr. The family made their way back to California to raise their children and later divorced.

David’s love for business ultimately brought him back to Winnemucca, Nevada to open and manage Jerry’s restaurant in 1981.

There, he met the love of his life, Lorri Fink. David and Lorri married February 12, 1982 and raised five children together. Sidney, Wesley, Sarah, Krystle and Megan. David moved on from managing restaurants and started working at Newmont Mine in 1988.

He worked there until he retired in 1998. David and Lorri went their own ways in 2003, yet remained in close contact over the years.

David was not one to stay home all day, so during his retirement years, he started working part time for a train crew transportation company. It was the highlight of his day when his grandkids would visit him at work. David would show his grandkids the trains and tell them everything about the railroad. These fun adventures earned him the beloved nickname of “Grandpa Train”.

David enjoyed his early quiet mornings with his coffee, hiking in the hills, buying and selling antiques and most of all, loved teaching his kids to play cribbage and poker. He relished in spending every moment he could with his kids and his grandkids and would often have several of them over to play cards with. He was constantly telling jokes and riddles and would do anything to make them laugh. Laughter and tall tales accompanied David wherever he went.

David is preceded in death by his mother, Faustina, his father, Clarence, and his eight older siblings.

David is survived by his sister, Melba Keeling, Ex-wife Lorri Glasgow, his eight children: Sidney Weaver, Wesley Weaver, Sarah Hawkins, Krystle Hollowell, Megan Weaver (Schommer), Valerie Summers, Dianna Johnson and David Weaver Jr. Grandchildren: Matthew and Emery Hawkins, Rueben, Mya and Katie Hollowell, Jackson and Austin Weaver, Emma and Brooklyn Schommer.  And several other grandchildren and great grandchildren.
