Dorothy was born October 5, 1926 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Harry and Alma Jeske Vondenbrink.
She graduated from Commercial Vocational High School in 1943 and began working in order to help her mother, a single mother of 5, support and raise her siblings.
She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1968 working in areas that included bookkeeper, secretary and beautician until she began working at the City Clerk’s office for the City of Henderson as the Deputy Assistant.
Dorothy was a member of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) and was appointed to be the Henderson City Clerk in 1975 becoming the second certified municipal clerk in Nevada.
The Governor appointed her to the State Historical Records Archive Board in which she received recognition for her participation in developing the State Record Management Guidelines.
She also served on the Board of Directors for the Henderson Allied Community Advocates (HACA) providing rent and utility assistance to those in need. She remained in her position as Henderson City Clerk until her retirement in 1993.
Throughout her life Dorothy had a deep connection to her Christian Faith and was loved and respected by many for her generous spirit and pleasant personality.
In 1982 she was instrumental in founding and building the First Henderson United Methodist Church where she remained a dedicated and active member until 1999 when she relocated to Pearce, Arizona.
She loved music, singing and had a passion for serving as Choir Director at both FHUMC and at Community Church Sunsites in Sunsites, Arizona.
Other passions included writing poetry, tatting, knitting, reading and traveling which included taking several pilgrimages to Israel to visit the Holy Land. Dorothy relocated to Lovelock, Nevada with her youngest sister in 2015.
Dorothy departed this life on December 25, 2020 at Fernley Estates Senior Living and Memory Care center in Fernley, Nevada.
She was preceded in death by her mother Alma Jeske Vondenbrink and her sisters Alma E Vondenbrink and Elaine Vondenbrink, she is survived by her sisters Naomi Tisue and Edith Salas.
Her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her, she left behind a trail of light that will never be forgotten.
