Pershing County boys suffers loss to Virginia City

It was Pershing County’s second go-around with the Virginia City Muckers. The Mustangs traveled to Virginia City on Friday and lost the non-conference match up 71-52.

Pershing County’s high scorers were Aaron Kienbaum (18), Travis Donaldson (13), Diego Gonzalez (11), Ashton Nolf (4) and Kayden Chambers (4). Coach Jesse Canchola remarked on the closeness of the game.

Early in the third quarter Pershing County brought the score to 30-31. Unfortunately, the Mustangs ran into foul trouble and Virginia City pulled away.

“As we fouled, they went 100% from the line and went a 10-10 streak that put the score out of reach,” said Canchola. However, Lovelock kept pressing until the final buzzer.

Virginia City coach Clint Hess said the Muckers had to press the Mustangs the whole game. He noted Pershing County’s improvement since the preseason Serpent Classic.

“We may have lost but we showed what we can do. Only up from here,” said Canchola.

JV boys beat the Muckers 49-22.

“We had six kids that scored five or more points so it was a great team game with everyone sharing the ball and scoring,” said Coach JJ Meyers. Izayuh McGlothin led with 11 points. Tommy Meyers added nine. Efrain Aceves had eight.

After break the Mustangs take to the road for the last games of 2021.

They play Coral Academy on Monday, Dec. 27. On Tuesday, Dec. 28, the Mustangs travel to Dayton.
