Barbara Margret Hammond, 89, passed peacefully from this world on December 15, 2021 in Winnemucca, NV.
She was born in Ogden, Utah July 12, 1932 to Hyrum Arvell & Norma (Peggy) Evans Hutchinson. She joined her older brother Norman at home and would later be followed by sisters Jean and Martha.
At the age of four Barbara moved from Utah to the Red House Flat in Nevada, where her father accepted the position as section foreman for the Western Pacific Railroad at the Red House Section.
Barbara attended the one room schoolhouse at Red House until high school, where she would later ride the bus into Winnemucca to attend Humboldt County High School.
Barbara married Cedric S. Hammond April 25, 1949 in Winnemucca, Nevada.
They had two sons, Leon and Lynn Hammond. Barbara worked alongside her family for many years cooking for numerous haying and buckaroo crews. She would later go to work for Humboldt County School District, driving the school bus for the Red House, Getchell and Golconda route for twenty seven years.
Barbara resided with her family at Red House Ranch, northeast of Golconda, Nevada for nearly fifty years.
When Hammond Ranches was sold in 1998, she moved to Winnemucca, Nevada where she resided until her death.
Barbara was a member for 59 years and held various positions in the Silver State Chapter #6 Order of the Eastern Star, and was a long time advisory board member of the Winnemucca Rainbow Girls #10.
She also donated and supported her grandchildrens rodeo, 4H, FFA and sporting activities.
Barbara enjoyed gardening, playing cards, crocheting, baking, canning and spending time with her family.
She was a true angel on earth taking care and raising not only her own children, but also grandchildren, nieces, and nephews without a second thought.
She is survived by her sons, Leon Hammond (Estrella) and Lynn Hammond (Mary Ann); grandchildren, Joy Placek (Bill), Jason Hammond (Tracy), and Lisa Cassinelli (Mike); Great grandchildren Katelyn Cassinelli and TJ Hammond. Numerous nieces and nephews from a very large extended family.
She is preceded in death by her spouse Cedric Hammond; parents Hyrum and Norma Hutchinson; brother Norman Hutchinson, and sister Jean Hammond.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on December 28th at the Winnemucca 2nd Ward - Mormon Church on Mary Way.
Graveside services will follow at the Winnemucca Cemetery. A luncheon will follow after graveside services at the church.
