Longhorn boys take to the floor at Comstock Classic

The Battle Mountain High School boys basketball team traveled to Virginia City this past weekend for the Comstock Classic to close its preseason tournament slate of games.

The Longhorns lost a pair of games on Friday, losing 39-33 to Pahranagat Valley (Alamo) and Mineral County 66-39.

Battle Mountain held a 16-15 lead against Pahranagat Valley after a quarter of play, but the Panthers defense stepped up in the second quarter and used a 14-3 run to lead 29-19 at the break. 

The Longhorns held the Panthers to just 10 points in the second half and got within four points in the fourth quarter but could not complete the comeback.

On Saturday, Battle Mountain picked up a 54-44 win over Coleville Calif.

The Longhorns opened their season in the first week of December at the Serpent Classic in Hawthorne.

Battle Mountain lost 66-33 to Bishop Union, Calif., Mineral County 55-46 and Churchill County 53-14.

Battle Mountain is scheduled to host Eureka in a non-conference contest on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The Lady Longhorns open Northern 2A play at home on Friday versus West Wendover at 7:30 p.m.

After taking Christmas break off, Battle Mountain is back home on Jan 7-8 to play North Tahoe and Incline, respectively.
