It was another good weekend for the Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team, who won three of four games at the Comstock Classic in Virginia City to improve to 6-3 on the season.
“Overall, the Lady Longhorns played much better than last week,” said BMHS coach Paul Tremayne. “It is nice to see our scoring coming from multiple people.”

In the second game on Friday, Battle Mountain easily disposed of Mineral County 50-13. Brynnlee Freeman outscored the Serpents by herself with 18 points and four steals. Ceja added nine points and four rebounds for the Lady Longhorns.
Battle Mountain suffered its only loss of the tournament on Saturday morning, losing 52-31 to Coleville, Calif.
The Wolves jumped out to a 20-12 advantage and slowly increased the gap in the second and third quarters. Coleville led 36-25 after three quarters, as each team scored six points in the fourth quarter.
Ceja had 15 points and eight steals and Freeman added eight points and seven rebounds.
“We need to continue to improve on taking care of the ball,” added the coach. “We had 27 turnovers against Coleville.”

Holley had a team-high 12 points to go with six rebounds. Ceja joined her in double figures with 12 points and she added steals. Nield netted eight points.
“We need to improve our transition defense,” Tremayne said. “We are excited to start league play this Friday with West Wendover.”
