The Nevada High School Rodeo Association closed out its fall portion of the schedule in Overton at the Moapa rodeo from Nov. 20-21.
Once again, area competitors had an excellent weekend.
Humboldt County’s Billy DeLong won a pair of events, including boys cutting with an average of 144 points.
DeLong won both performances of the event, scoring 72 points in each round.
DeLong took home the top spot in saddle bronc, winning both performances as well. He scored 64 points in the first performance and 72 in the second.
The only other qualified ride on the weekend was by Wells’ Eyer Morrison in the second performance with 68 points.
DeLong was the runner-up in steer wrestling after winning the second performance with a time of 25.470 seconds.
He did not have a time in the first performance. Alamo’s C.J. Christian won the event with a time of 12.440 in the first performance.
He did not have a tie in his second go-around. DeLong was 11th in tie-down roping.
DeLong continues to maintain a huge lead in the all-around standings with 399.50 points. Pahrump’s Garrett Jepson is second at 250.
Cooper Hill placed third in boys cutting with 126 points. He scored 62 points the first performance and 64 in the second. Hill placed 15th in tie-down roping.
Hill sits in seventh in the all-around standings with 146 points.
On the girls side, Humboldt County’s Lexi Garijo won the breakaway roping average in a time of 6.67. She was fourth in the first performance at 3.41 and third in the second performance with a time of 3.26.
Garijo was 21st in barrel racing with an average of 37.791 after times of 18.952 and 18.839 and 33rd in pole bending.
Emma Garijo notched the runner-up finish in pole bending with a time of 42.402. She won the first performance at 21.042 and was second in the second performance at 21.360.
Garijo placed third in breakaway roping with an average of 7.03.
She placed second in the first performance at 3.24 and fifth in the second performance with a time of 3.79. She was fifth in barrel racing at 36.556 with top-7 finishes in each performance.
Emma Garijo is second in the all-around standings and Lexi Garijo is 14th
Battle Mountain’s Italy Jo Holman wins pole bending
Battle Mountain’s Italy Jo Holman captured the pole bending average title with a time of 42.257 after two strong runs.
She tied for second in the first performance with a time of 21.279 and she won the second performance eat 20.978 and was the only rider to break 21 seconds in the event on the weekend.
Holman placed 13th in breakaway roping after finish 10th in the first performance with a time of 4.47.
She missed her calf in the second performance. She finished 10th in girls cutting with 123 points and she was 25th in barrel racing with a time of 37.860.
Amelia Lancaster and partner Jarrett Peek from Fallon were fourth in team roping with an average time of 22.490.
The duo were sixth in the first performance at 14.020 and were the runner-up in the second performance with a time of 8.38.
Lancaster placed sixth in barrel racing with a time of 36.916.
She finished ninth in the first performance at 18.418 and fourth in the second performance with a time of 18.201. She was 14th in breakaway roping and 16th in pole bending.
Desi Coombs and Lincoln County’s Wylee Mitchell were seventh in team roping with a time of 13.460 after missing the calf in the second performance.
Coombs earned a runner-up finish in barrel racing with a time of 35.975. She placed fourth in the opening performance at 18.138 and second in the final performance with a time of 17.837.
Coombs was fourth in breakaway at 8.020, after placing third in the first performance at 3.24. She placed sixth in the second performance in a time of 4.76. Coombs was 15th in pole bending.
Jolena Ayers placed ninth in pole bending with a time of 46.849 and 10th in goat tying at 23.500 and Gracie Lou Homan finished ninth in girls cutting with 129 points.
Lancaster and Coombs are seventh and eighth in the all-around standings.
Matti DeLong wins at junior high level
Humboldt County’s Matti DeLong won the junior high barrel racing at 36.645, after winning both performances with times of 18.335 and 18.310, respectively.
She was the runner-up in goat tying at 18.890, placing second in each performance with times of 9.97 and 9.00. DeLong placed fifth in breakaway roping, despite missing her calf in the first performance. She came back to win the second performance with a time of 3.01, the quickest run of the weekend.
DeLong and partner Wyatt Peek from Fallon were sixth in team roping and DeLong placed 15th in pole bending.
Humboldt County’s Huntley Byrd won the pole bending with a time of 42.522, four seconds better than second place. She won both performances with times of 21.291 and 21.261, respectively.
Byrd placed 12th in barrel racing at 43.332, which included a sixth-place finish in the first performance. She was third in team roping with fellow Humboldt County rider Bryce Fears and Byrd ninth in goat tying.
Taylor Hill placed fourth in breakaway roping, 13th in barrel racing and 19th in pole bending.
Louise DeLong was eighth in breakaway roping and 13th in goat tying and 10th in ribbon roping.
Lane Byrd placed second in boys breakaway roping with a time of 8.82, he was sixth in goat tying and third in ribbon roping with Battle Mountain’s Jorja Mashburn.
Bryce Fears was seventh in boys goat tying and eighth in boys breakaway roping.
Battle Mountain’s Eli Lancaster was fifth in boys breakaway roping and second in team roping with Logan Lancaster. Battle Mountain’s Landry Meiman, Gracie Mashburn and Jorja Mashburn also had strong finishes in their respective events.
