High School basketball, wrestling get going this weekend

After seeing the 2020-21 high school basketball and wrestling season canceled because of the Covid pandemic, the athletes and coaches are back on the mat and floor and fans are eager to watch.

• The Lowry varsity boys basketball team heads to Elko for the three-day Elko tournament. Lowry is schedule to play Hunter (West Valley, Utah) on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. 

The Buckaroos take on Twin Falls (Idaho) on Friday at 6 p.m. and close the weekend against Reno on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

• The Lowry freshmen and JV girls basketball team will be in Reno/Sparks for Spanish Springs tournament. 

The Lowry JV is set to play Douglas on Thursday at Spanish Springs at 4:30 p.m. The Lady Bucks play McQueen on Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Reno High School and play at Spanish Springs on Saturday at noon.

• The Lowry freshmen are scheduled to play Douglas on Thursday at Spanish Springs at 3 p.m. 

The Lady Bucks play McQueen on Friday at 3 p.m. at Reno High School and play at Spanish Springs on Saturday at 9 a.m.

• The Lowry varsity girls will wait an extra week to get going with a trip to Las Vegas for the Liberty tournament from Dec. 9-11.

• The Lowry wrestlers are scheduled to travel to Fallon this weekend for the Earl Wilkins Invitational. 

The Buckaroos host the Cody Louk Invitational on Dec. 10-11 at the Winnemucca Event Center.

• The McDermitt boys basketball team will be in Reno for three days this weekend for the Winter Invitational. 

• The McDermitt girls will travel to the eastern part of Nevada and be in Wells for the WREC Classic. 

Both squads will travel to Virginia City for the Comstock Classic on Dec. 11-12. 

McDermitt is scheduled to make its home debut on Tuesday, Dec. 14, against Pyramid Lake. The girls start at 4 p.m. and boys at 5:30 p.m.

• The Battle Mountain boys and girls varsity basketball teams will be in Hawthorne on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. 

The Longhorns travel to Virginia City on Dec. 10-11 for the Comstock Classic.

The varsity teams are scheduled to make their home debut on Thursday, Dec. 16 against Eureka.

• The Battle Mountain JV basketball teams will be in Lovelock on Friday and Saturday for the Pershing County tournament. 

The Longhorns return home on Dec. 10-11 to host their tournament. They will also be at home on Dec. 16 to play Eureka.

• The Battle Mountain wrestling team has a busy start to the season. The Longhorns travel to Boise, Idaho this weekend for the Bucks Bag Invitational.

Battle Mountain scheduled to travel to Elko on Dec. 7 for dual with the Indians and they will travel to Winnemucca on Dec. 10-11 for the Cody Louk Invitational.

• The Pershing County boys and girls varsity basketball teams will be in Hawthorne on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. 

The Mustangs travel to Zephyr Cove on Dec. 9-11 for the Whittell tournament. 

The varsity teams are scheduled to travel to Virginia City on Friday, Dec. 17 to play the Muckers.

• The Pershing County JV basketball teams will be in Lovelock on Friday and Saturday for their home tournament. 

The Mustangs travel to Battle Mountain on Dec. 10-11 for the Longhorn Invitational. The JV boys will also be in Virginia City on Dec. 17.

• The Pershing County wrestling team is scheduled to compete in the Earl Wilkins Invitational in Fallon on Saturday. The Mustangs will travel to Winnemucca on Dec. 10-11 for the Cody Louk Invitational and host the Lovelock Mustang Invitational on Dec. 18.
