The Battle Mountain High School and junior high gyms were a busy place this past weekend, as the Lady Longhorn volleyball team hosted their tournament for the first time since 2019. Schools were not allowed to have tournaments a season ago due to Covid concerns.

Battle Mountain defeated Tonopah in its final pool game on Saturday, 25-17, 20-25 and 15-10.

The Lady Longhorns finished third in the ‘A’ pool and took on rival Pershing County in the first round of bracket play. The Lady Mustangs won the opening set 25-22, and Battle Mountain overcame a match point in set two at 25-24 to come back and win 27-25. Battle Mountain led 8-2 in the third set, but could not hold on for the win.

Battle Mountain is back home on Friday to play White Pine. The JV starts at 4 p.m. and the varsity at 5 p.m.
