Stella Genieve Northrup passed away on August 16, 2021, in Reno, Nevada. She was born in Winnemucca, NV on July 21, 1954, to Ivan and Ruth Northrup.
She was raised in McDermitt, NV alongside her brothers and sisters. She attended school in McDermitt and graduated with the class of 1974 from McDermitt Combined Schools.
After graduation, she lived in Susanville for a short period before settling down in Winnemucca in the late 1970s. Stella did custodian work at Winners Inn Casino and housekeeping at Motel 6.
Stella married Jose Parra in 1997. The two shared many years of laughter and love until Jose’s passing.
She attended the First Baptist Church and did volunteer work with the Domestic Violence Shelter.
Stella was a wonderful aunt, sister, and friend. She always had a joke to tell, while they were sometimes inappropriate, they were always funny!
She loved her family endlessly and while not having children of her own, she was a bonus grandma to many.
Stella and her sister, Pansy were two peas in a pod.
In their older years, Stella lost her eyesight and Pansy lost her hearing, so the two of them teamed up and were each other’s eyes and ears.
Stella was given the nickname of “Owl”, no one remembers how she got that nickname, but everyone knew her by it.
She will be remembered lovingly by all who knew her and loved her.
Stella is survived by her brother, Carnegie Northrup and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jose. Her parents, Ivan and Ruth Northrup. Brothers, Lamar Northrup, Rodger Northrup, and Clifford Northrup. Sisters, Pansy Northrup, Rita Stewart, Eloise Beecher, and Rhoda Ceballos.
Services for Stella will be held on Monday, August 23, 2021, at the Fort McDermitt Tribal Gym at 12:00 pm. She will then be buried at the Winnemucca Cemetery.
