Maury came into this world on March 26, 1949, in Lovelock to Omar and Gladys (Parietti) Nelsen as their second child.
He completed his education through Pershing County School District, graduating in 1967 achieving “All-Conference” and “All-State” Tackle Honors as a Mustang.
The United States Marine Corps saw him as a proper fit in 1969, and gave Maury an Honorable Discharge in 1971 after serving Presidential Security for President Nixon’s Western White House.
Maury and Carol met in early 1977 and remained together 44 years. They welcomed daughter Leslie in 1980.
That year, Maury began working for Lovelock Meadows Water District as the only hourly employee (got a blue Luv truck and a shovel) and retired as District Manager in 2008.
Maury served as a conservative voice on the Lovelock City Council for 12 years, a member and past President of Pershing County High School Alumni Association, a member and past President of Lovelock Racing Association (during which tenure he started the Nevada Dirt Track Championships), and a member and past President of the Nile Valley Race Club.
Since retiring, Maury remained active with the Lovelock Speedway and enjoyed a passionate hobby of owning the 3L 360 winged sprint car.
Maury passed from this world on June 13, 2021, at his home in Lovelock due to complications of rheumatoid arthritis (It doesn’t only affect joints).
At the time of his passing, he was predeceased by his parents and daughter, Leslie Nelsen Brown, and survived by his wife Carol, sister Pamela (Nelsen) Kilrain, granddaughter, Claire Brown, and numerous in-laws, nephews, nieces, and dear friends.
Private services will be held at a later date at Big Meadow Cemetery.
