Thank you to the community

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Winnemucca Convention & Visitors Authority (WCVA), I would like to express our sincere appreciation to all those who helped ensure that the 2021 NHPA World Championship Horseshoe Pitching Tournament was a complete success.

Thank you to local businesses, the Humboldt Conservation Camp crew, convention center and event center staff, our host hotels, and the community in general for showing off your one-of-a-kind hospitality.

We have received many compliments from the participants about the facilities and Winnemucca’s warm welcome. I was told by a number of participants that when they heard the tournament was coming to north-central Nevada, they questioned why they should travel across the United States to go to a little town called Winnemucca.

Well Winnemucca, you showed them why and they had a great time!

The tournament lasted two weeks and attracted over 730 contestants and their families; without a doubt, it will go down as the largest event ever held in Winnemucca, generating millions of dollars in economic benefits for our community.

Most contestants consider the tournament their “family vacation,” so they brought along spouses, children and grandchildren to tour the area, visit local events and attractions, and patronize local businesses. And Winnemucca did not disappoint.

With a bounteous offering of extracurricular activities; delicious restaurants, eateries, coffee shops and fast-food restaurants; local boutiques that provided a unique shopping experience; area parks, hiking, mountain biking, fishing and more to satisfy those bent on an outdoor experience; and, of course, casinos that shared a true Nevada gaming experience, it made for a great trip.

This just goes to prove that together, we can show any event a wonderful time, and benefit economically at the same time.

It takes a lot to put on a special event. Thank you to everyone who helped make the 2021 NHPA World Championship Horseshoe Pitching Tournament such a success. We know it takes a team effort to put on a special event. Thanks for being part of the WCVA’s special-event team.

Thanks again, and great job Winnemucca!
