Members of the Battle Mountain NNA swim team were in Minden from July 30-Aug. 1 for the 2021 High Country Short Course Championship.
All four kids for Battle Mountain qualified for the state championships, as Daxon Bakker tied for high points in age group, Nevaeh Serna was the runner up high point in her age group, missing out by two points. The team is coached by Michael Hall.
Bakker was first in the boys 8 and under 25-yard backstroke with a time of 21.13 seconds, a 4.70 second improvement. He placed third in the 50-yard breaststroke at 1:05.68 and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 43.61.
Bakker took off over a second in the 50-yard backstroke to win with a time of 49.42. He was the runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle at 1:35.84, taking nearly 12 seconds off his time.
He was also second in the 25-yard butterfly (23.70) and fifth in the 25-yard freestyle at 19.19, taking off 7.78 seconds.
Serna broke 40 seconds for the first time in the 50-yard backstroke at 39.04 to win the girls 9-10-year-old division. Her time of 39.04, was a 2.17-second improvement. She placed second in the 50-yard breaststroke at 44.88, taking off 3.77 seconds and Serna was the runner-up in the 100-yard individual medley at 1:29.04, a 6.39 second improvement.
Serna took off more than 14 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke to win with a time of1:25.22 and improved by nearly 22 seconds to take the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:44.81. In addition, she won the 50-yard freestyle at 32.18 and she placed second in the 50-yard butterfly at 42.18.
Saige Bakker was eighth in the 8 and under 25-yard backstroke with a time of 26.42, a 5.79 second improvement and she was seventh in the 25-yard breaststroke (34.39) and 10th in the 50-yard Freestyle (54.86), a 3.41 second improvement.
Bakker was seventh in the 50-yard backstroke at 56.11, eighth in the 100-yard freestyle (2:06.90) and 12th in the 25-yard freestyle with a time of 23.37, a 16.10 second improvement.
Zayne Hall finished third in the boys 13-14-year-old boys 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:17.12. He was ninth in the 200-yard freestyle at 2:05.47, a 6.60 second improvement.
Hall finished third in the 50-yard freestyle at 25.03 and fifth in the 100-yard backstroke, four second better than his previous time. He finished seventh in the 200-yard individual medley (2:36.78) and ninth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.30.
Hall placed fifth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:10.66) and fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:46.27, a 2.37 second improvement.
