The Battle Mountain High School softball team continued its roll in the early part of the season with four more wins this past weekend to improve to 4-0 in league play and 6-0 overall.
Battle Mountain hosted West Wendover on Friday and swept the Wolverines 21-6 and 15-0.
The Lady Longhorns hit the road for the first time on Saturday and beat Wells 11-3 and 19-9.
In the first of two games against West Wendover, Battle Mountain fell behind 5-3 after the top of the second inning but a 11-run second inning for the Lady Longhorns turned the tables in the contest. Battle Mountain erased a two-run deficit to lead 14-5.
Battle Mountain added five runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth to end the game early on the 15-run rule.
Ashlynn Newkirk had a team-high three hits, while Reagan Buller and Jackie La Riva each added two hits. La Riva also added two RBI. Marena Fuller, Shea Jones and Adriana Robles each had one hit.
Freshman Jessa Spring got the start in the circle for the Lady Longhorns and threw two innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on four hits. She struck out two and walked one.
Jones threw the final two innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on one hit. The sophomore struck out three and walked one.
In the nightcap, Battle Mountain dominated from the start, scoring 11 runs in the first inning. Jones allowed just one hit in the three-inning game. She struck out five and walked one to earn the victory.
The Lady Longhorns closed out the scoring with two runs apiece in the second and third innings.
Battle Mountain pounded 11 hits, including three from Buller, who also had four RBI. Newkirk added two hits, two runs scored and two RBI and Fuller had two hits and two RBI. La Riva also had two hits and Samantha Leffler and Heidy Amezcua had one hit apiece.
In the opening game on Saturday in Wells, Battle Mountain found itself in the closest contest of the year.
The Lady Longhorns led 2-0 after two innings of play when the Leopards plated three runs in the third inning to go in front 3-2.
Wells kept the same lead until the sixth inning when Battle Mountain scored two runs to go back in front 4-3.
The Lady Longhorns broke the game open with seven runs in the seventh inning.
Robles had two hits for Battle Mountain, while Christina Holley had one hit and three RBI. Newkirk had a hit, RBI and run scored for the Lady Longhorns and Spring scored three runs.
Jones went the distance in the circle, allowing three runs (two earned) in seven innings of work.
She struck out eight and walked three.
Battle Mountain made easier work of Wells in the nightcap, winning by the 10-run rule. Fuller collected two hits for the Lady Longhorns and Noliena Castellanos, Holley, Amezcua and Jones each had two hits.
Castellanos and Jones both saw action in the circle. Castellanos picked up the win, allowing nine runs (six earned) on five hits. She struck out four and walked four.
Battle Mountain traveled to Lovelock on Tuesday to play Pershing County and results were not available at press time.
The Lady Longhorns travel to West Wendover on Friday for a doubleheader and are back on the road Saturday to play Carlin in a non-conference doubleheader.
