Longhorn golfers post two top-10 finishes at West Wendover

One would think starting the season a month later would provide some better weather, but the Northern 2A golf season opened up in less-than-ideal conditions on Thursday, April 15, in West Wendover.

“The Battle Mountain boys golf season started out as usual, cold, windy and wet,” said BMHS coach Jayson Cutler.

Seven teams took to the course to compete, with the Elko JV, Jackpot, Spring Creek JV, Wells, West Wendover and White Pine joining Battle Mountain.

“Besides the weather conditions, the course was in good shape,” added the coach

Battle Mountain scored two top 10 finishes on the day, as Max Villanueva shot his best career tournament score, 90, for a third-place finish. Brice Domagala shot his course best with a 113, tying for ninth.

“Both played very well,” Cutler said. “We have had very minimal practice time, in between fall sports and spring sport seasons. We should see steadied improvement on these tougher courses.

Battle Mountain travels to Spring Creek on Thursday,

“Hopefully the weather conditions are more suitable for golf,” Cutler said.

Battle Mountain hosts its tournament on Thursday, April 29.
