Obituary: James Patrick Kiley

James Patrick Kiley, age 85, passed away in Hospice care at The Lodge in Carson City, Nevada on March 29, 2021. 

Jim was surrounded during his last days by his wife, Sheilla Harris Kiley, his daughters Elizabeth Shoemaker, Sharlene Davis (Greg), Jamie Pruneau (Randy), 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Jim was a native Nevadan. He was born in Reno on April 1, 1935. He first attended school in Fernley, Nevada in a one room school. 

He later moved with his family to Hawthorne, Nevada where he graduated from Mineral County High School as the Student Body President.

Jim graduated from UNR where he was a member of ATO fraternity.

After graduation Jim taught science at Carson High. He also worked as a counselor there.

Jim worked for several years for the Nevada Department of Education in Carson. He traveled widely throughout the state, evaluating programs and sharing new ideas with teachers.

Following that, Jim became Superintendent of schools for Pershing County for many years. 

In 1993 he received a plaque recognizing him as Superintendent of the Year, given by the American Association of School Administrators.

While in Lovelock, Jim learned to fly a plane. He bought a 4-seater plane and loved to fly a Cessna 180.

For many years Jim and Sheilla arranged for their growing family to meet for a week at Lake Tahoe. The family created wonderful memories there.

Jim will always be remembered as a man who loved his family, his friends, and his work. And he was loved dearly in return!
