The Battle Mountain High School volleyball team was busy this past week with three matches on the scheduled slate.
Battle Mountain hosted Pershing County on Tuesday, March 30, and beat the Lady Mustangs 25-19, 25-21 and 26-24.
The Lady Longhorns traveled to Yerington on Friday night and lost in four sets to the Lions.
Battle Mountain played its home finale on Saturday afternoon and Silver Stage left with a 25-23, 25-19, 16-25 and 25-17 win over the Lady Longhorns.
Battle Mountain is now 6-5 on the season.
In the win over Pershing County, Battle Mountain scored the first four points of the opening set on the strength of three aces by Brynnlee Freeman.
The advantage grew to 13-4 after a kill and ace by Addi Slaybaugh and a block by Freeman.
The Lady Longhorns remained comfortably in front at 18-9 after a block by Lolly Argueta, only to see the Mustangs rally to cut the deficit to 22-17. Argueta ended the Pershing County run with a kill and Battle Mountain won the set on a Pershing County hitting error.
Battle Mountain used aces from Marena Fuller and Freeman to jump out to a 3-1 lead in the second set, when Pershing County went on an 8-1 run to go in front 9-4 and force the Lady Longhorns to call a timeout.
Battle Mountain’s serving continued to keep them in the set, using back-to-back aces by Anahi Lopez to cut the deficit to 9-7. The two squads traded points midway through the set when Battle Mountain took the lead for good at 16-25.
Aces by Fuller and Freeman and a block by Argueta allowed the Lady Longhorns to pull away for the win.
Pershing County had the early momentum in the third set, leading 10-6 when Freeman started a Battle Mountain rally with a tip in the open floor, which weas followed by a block by Lopez and an ace by Fuller.
The set was tied at 12, 13 and 15, when Battle Mountain scored three points in a row to go lead 18-15.
The close fight continued as the set was tied gain a 21, 22 and 23 all, when the Lady Longhorns had match point at 24-23.
However, Battle Mountain committed a serving error on the next point to allow Pershing County to tie the set at 24.
Battle Mountain took the lead at 25-24 on a tip by Slaybaugh and closed out the match on an ace by Emily Lisabelle.
