While other high school sports have to wait to 2021 to start the Nevada High School Rodeo Association opened its 2020-21 season and the Battle Mountain Rodeo Club had a number of strong finishes in Gardnerville on Aug. 28-30.
Emma Lemaire and Gracie Lou Holman were first and second, respectively, in the girls cutting average. Lemaire had an average of 142 points to win, In addition, she claimed the top spot in the first performance and was runner-up in the second performance. Holman scored 138.5 points, including a second-place finish in the first performance.
Holman added a second-place finish in the breakaway average, with a time of 8.860 seconds. She finished second in the first performance and fifth in the second. Lemaire placed sixth in the breakaway roping average, in a time of17.130.
Lemaire and Holman continued their strong weekend, placing seventh and eighth in the pole bending average. Lemaire won the first performance of pole bending.
Italy Jo Holman took home the top spot pole bending, with a time of 41.730. She was second in the first performance at 20.868 and came back to win the second performance at 20.862.
Italy Jo Holman was sixth in the barrel racing average at 36.945, including a fourth-place run in the second performance.
Amelia Lancaster and Jolena Ayers were 10th and 12th in the barrel racing average. Lancaster and Syerra Silva of Fallon partnered up to finish fourth in the team roping average at 38.400. The duo place first in the second performance with a time of 7.710. Lancaster was ninth in breakaway roping, 10th in goat tying and 11th in pole bending.
In addition, Ayers placed ninth in goat tying and 23rd in pole bending.
Desatoya Coombs finished 10th in breakaway roping, 17th in barrel racing and 19th in pole bending.
The Battle Mountain Rodeo Club competed in Lincoln County this past weekend.
Battle Mountain will host the next rodeo on Sept. 25-27.
