Lorna Mae Rogers, 82 passed away on August 29, 2020 at the Battle Mountain Long Term Care.
She was surrounded by many family members. Lorna was born April 12, 1938 to Parley and Vyrus Garfield.
She is preceded in death by her husband Max, sons Kelly and Brandan, mother, father and stepfather Elmo Grohman, sister Joyce and brothers Bernell, Donald and Larry.
Lorna’s father died when she was only 5 leaving behind her mom and 3 siblings. This caused the family to move to Murray, Utah so her mother could provide for her children.
Lorna learned very young how to babysit, sew, iron and mend clothes not leaving much time to be a child.
Lorna was so happy when her mother met and married Elmo Grohman in 1945. From this union Lorna gained another brother and was sealed to her mother and stepfather.
Lorna met her future husband Max at a junior high track meet and she was smitten.
They were married August 19, 1953 and were sealed in the St. George, Utah temple on August 19, 1971.
Max and Lorna moved to Battle Mountain in 1970 to run the Best Western Motel.
When Max got hired at the gold mine it allowed Lorna to be a stay at home mom and homemaker
Being the ambitious couple they were, they built owned and operated a fabric shop, video store and miniature golf course called Wee World.
This was a place they made everyone feel welcomed even if it was just to stop by and visit.
Lorna was not a person of worldly needs; her needs were to see her children had what they needed first, and always willing to give what she had. Her children will tell you “we didn’t have much but we had what we needed”.
She loved drawing, playing cards, bingo and board games. If you were to stop by the house there was always a game of some kind taking place, whether it was the family playing a sport outside or games going on inside.
She was an excellent quilter and seamstress. She also crocheted and kept an immaculate house even with 15 kids.
It was not uncommon to drive by her home early in the morning and see clothes already washed, hung on the clothesline and water running on the lawn.
Sports were always important to her and Max. They were always supporting their children and watching them play. One of her greatest loves was watching the Utah Jazz play with Max lying on the floor, while she took the couch.
After Max passed away their grandson Tylor would spend the night laying in grandpas spot on the floor watching the game with her so she wouldn’t be alone.
Lorna was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints serving in many callings including Relief Society President and Primary President.
She had great faith in the Heavenly Father which got her through some very difficult times.
Max and Lorna’s greatest accomplishment was their 15 children, each unique and special Lorna would say.
Not one had the same personality but they had great attributes and potential.
Lorna will be missed by so many people. She was kind, caring, thoughtful and an example of a true mother, not only to her children but to those around her.
She has left quite a legacy behind that will be remembered for many years to come.
Lorna is survived by her children: Julie Street (Dave), Kerry Rogers (Keri), Jody Rogers (Tonia), Corie Waddoups, Randy Rogers (Ida), Ricky Rogers (Brenda), Rusty Rogers, Stephanie Carter (Dana), Kimberly Whitehead (Shane), Courtney Rogers, Jennifer Rogers, Tiffney Rogers and Ashlee Bundrock.
She also leaves behind 40 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
