RENO —Head basketball coach Steve Alford announced the signing of three recruits to the Nevada Wolf Pack program.
The class consists of two high school prospects in 6-4 guard Jalen Weaver and 6-8 forward Nick Davidson, and the mid-year addition of 6-6 guard Addison Patterson, a transfer from Oregon.
“I could not be more pleased or excited about the addition of these three young men,” said Alford, who is in his second season guiding the Pack. “This class fits our culture perfectly with high character, good students and a passion to get better on the court.”
Patterson will join the Wolf Pack this winter for the 2021 spring semester and must sit out until the spring semester of 2022 under current NCAA rules, though the program will explore waiver options through the NCAA. He will have three seasons of eligibility with the Wolf Pack.
With Oregon in 2019-20, Patterson played in 28 games, shooting 56.3 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from three-point range.
He averaged 4.6 points per game for the Ducks. A native of Ontario, Canada, Patterson was originally a class of 2020 recruit who reclassified to the class of 2019.
He was a four-star recruit coming out of high school and was a member of Canada’s U17 National Team.
“Addison is a long, athletic guard who can defend multiple positions,” Alford said. “He was a top-50 player coming out of high school. Addison has the ability to be an impact player due to his skillset and elite athletic ability.”
Davidson prepped at powerhouse Mater Dei High School in Southern California. Last year as a junior, he averaged 8 points, 5 rebounds and 1 assists per game for Mater Dei, which finished in the top 25 nationally. Davidson had offers from around the country, but has direct ties to the Wolf Pack.
“Nick is a skilled, hard-working forward,” Alford said. “He brings both high character and toughness to our team. Nick comes to us from a very good program in Mater Dei, which is coached by the legendary Gary McKnight. Nick is also a legacy player at Nevada as his mom and dad played for the Pack in the early 1990s.
Davidson’s father, Kirk, was a center for the Wolf Pack basketball team and his mother, Kelly (Martin), played volleyball at Nevada.
Weaver was the top-ranked recruit coming out of Colorado this year after starring previously for Smoky Hill High School in Aurora. He is currently attending Southern California Academy in Santa Clarita for his senior season.
As a junior at Smoky Hill, Weaver averaged 18.8 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists per game.
“Jalen is a versatile combo guard with a tremendous upside,” Alford said. “He’s a big, athletic guard who can play multiple positions in the backcourt. Jalen plays with great energy and with his athleticism, he will only improve.”
