The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association has announced plans for the spring season if schools open back up
Governor Steve Sisolak has indicated that schools will not re-open prior to Thursday, April 16.
The NIAA staff has been putting together contingency plans based on schools opening with extracurricular activities on that day.
Should schools open and after school activities be permitted on April 16, the plan, currently, is to begin interscholastic competition on Wednesday, April 22.
It is anticipated in team sports (baseball, boys volleyball and softball) that schools will be divided within their classification and region into pools of three to five schools with play among those schools used to aid in seeding a regional tournament at least to the point of being able to separate better teams in the region bracket.
For the individual sports of swimming & diving and track & field, schools would be able to compete in competition they arrange beginning April 22.
Entry directly into the regional meet for a maximum number of entries per event per school would make up the region meet.
For boys golf, depending on the number of teams in a region and the ability of courses to handle the number of golfers, each school will be allowed to enter a team of six golfers in a region tournament qualifier, possibly two, held April 22 or later depending on course availability.
A predetermined number of teams and individuals would qualify from the results of these qualifiers to the region tournament.
In regions which are small enough that a course could handle the number of competitors for the entire region, all schools would compete in the region tournament.
Qualification to the state meet/tournament in golf, swimming & diving and track & field would not be changed from that in a regular year.
These are contingency plans and not absolute by any means.
Adjustments can and likely will be made. There may be a need to limit the number of contests in which a school competes in sports which will not be involved with pool play.
This is to assure that an excessive intrusion into what will be limited classroom time between the re-opening of schools and the scheduled end of the school year does not occur.
Adjustments are also being planned in case schools re-open later than April 16.
It is anticipated at this time that competition will not go beyond the dismissal of school for the current school year.

A lack of days/weeks to complete competition could result in competition through a regional tournament only.
It is the hope of NIAA staff that all tournaments will be able to be held.
The NIAA has scheduled sites for nearly all of the regional and state tournaments.
Realignment
Committee Meeting
The meeting of the NIAA Realignment Committee scheduled for March 13, 2020, was postponed.
The meeting will take place April 8, 9 or 13.The meeting will be done totally remotely.
Those wishing to make public comment will need to contact the NIAA in advance of the meeting.
The meeting is scheduled to hear appeals by schools aligned in the 3A, 4A and 5A classifications for winter sports per the recommendation of the Realignment Committee.
Those schools which have notified the NIAA that they wish to make an appeal will be notified on how that is to happen.
Following the hearing of the appeals, the Committee will then adopt a final recommendation for the alignment.
Also on the agenda for the meeting is the adoption of a recommendation for tournament formats for winter sports in the 3A, 4A and 5A classifications.
Schools will be notified of the date of the scheduled meeting as soon as it is decided.
NIAA Board of
Control Meeting
The regular spring meeting of the NIAA Board of Control originally scheduled for March 30-31, was also postponed.
It is anticipated at this time that the meeting will take place in late April.

Academic Eligibility Checks
When school reconvenes, schools will be required to do academic eligibility checks.
The schedules for those checks will be determined by when the last check was completed.
If the last check was completed at the conclusion of the last week students attended school, the next check is to be completed at the conclusion of three weeks following the re-opening of school.
If the last check was completed the week prior to the last week students attended school, the next check is to be completed at the conclusion of two weeks following the re-opening of school.
If the last check was completed two weeks prior to the last week students attended school, the next check is to be completed at the conclusion of the week of the re-opening of school.
Schools may do checks sooner than is required but may not do them later than these required checks without approval of the Executive Director.
