The Battle Mountain High School softball team opened its season with four wins at the Yerington tournament this past weekend.
On Friday, Battle Mountain beat Dayton 12-0 and the Lowry JV 6-5. On Saturday, the Lady Longhorns cruised to victories over Yerington 16-0 and Bishop Union 12-0. In the four games, Battle Mountain outscored their opponents 45-6.
In the win over Dayton, Battle Mountain scored 11 runs in the opening and cruised to the three-inning victory. Ashlynn Newkirk had three of the Lady Longhorns’ nine hits and Carlee Petersen added two hits. Regan Buller, Sierra Leavitt, Marena Fuller and Adriana Robles had one hit apiece. Buller’s hit was a home run.
Kira Smith, Petersen and Robles, each scored two runs.

BMHS beats Lowry JV
Battle Mountain fell behind 2-0 to the Lowry JV, but grabbed a 5-2 advantage after two innings of play. The Lady Bucks came back to tie the contest in the top of third inning, when Battle Mountain scored the winning run in the bottom of the third inning.
Smith and Leavitt picked up two hits for the Lady Longhorns, while Jade Castellanos, Newkirk and Robles had one hit apiece.
Shae Jones and Smith split time in the circle, with Smith picking up the win.

In its first game on Saturday, Battle Mountain scored 12 runs in the first inning in a two-inning, 16-0 win over Yerington.
Petersen had two hits and three RBI to pace Battle Mountain, while Robles had a hit and two RBI.
Newkirk, Buller, Castellanos, Fuller and Jones each had one hit.
Smith picked up the win, allowing one hit. She struck out four and walked two.
BMHS beats Bishop
Battle Mountain closed out the tournament with a 12-0 win over Bishop, Calif. The Lady Longhorns scored three times in the first inning, added four runs in the second and five more in the third to close out the game.
Freshman Ashlyn Schmidt had three hits, five RBI and scored two runs. Castellanos and Jones added two hits each and combined for three RBI.
Christina Holley and Jackie LaRiva each scored three runs.
Battle Mountain will be at home on Friday to play West Wendover at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m. in a doubleheader.
