Fay W. Brinkerhoff, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, passed away at 91 years of age on May 20, 2020 with his loving wife of seventy years, Wanda, and his youngest daughter, Diana, by his side.
He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered. Fay was born on November 21, 1928 in McCormick, Utah to Wendell and Stella Brinkerhoff.
He spent his early years in Fillmore, Utah with his parents and seven siblings.
Fay was a pioneer and moved his family to Orovada, Nevada in 1959 when they received their land grant under the Desert Homestead Act.
Fay could do anything except irrigate with a 14’ scraper and an old International Cat. Fay and Wanda lived in Duffy’s Trailer Court for the first year before moving their family to the farm.
Fay was a very innovative farmer and was one of the first to introduce Leaf Cutter Bees to Orovada alfalfa seed.
Fay was an avid hunter and fisherman. His favorite fishing hole in the early days was Blue Lake with his family and later Knott Creek where he was always “First On – Last Off”.
If there was water, Fay would be fishing it. He looked forward to the hunting season and enjoyed bird hunting with his family and dogs.
Fay retired from farming in 1988 and moved to Wilder, Idaho where he lived for ten years.
But Nevada was home and in 1997 they returned to Orovada to be close to their children and grandchildren.
Fay is survived by his wife and partner, Wanda, and five children: Jerry, Terrie Keller (Ron deceased), Nina Smith (Blaine), Denis, Diana York (Dick), three sisters – Pearl, Golda and Ginger.
He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grand children, and his Lovelock, Nevada family. Preceded in death by his son Lee (Stacey), baby grandson, his parents and four brothers.
Dad was always good for a whisker burn and a hug in his chair no matter your age or gender. He had a knack for putting his grandchildren to sleep.
