Ernest George Tackitt, 72, died Sunday May 31st after a battle with renal cancer.
George was born August 2, 1947 in Morenci, AZ to Duard and Nila Tackitt. He grew up in Longmont, CO and has been a resident of Battle Mountain, NV for the last 30 years.
George started his career in construction at the young age of 16. He was a member of the Operating Engineers and was a part of building many different roadways in northern Nevada.
Operating heavy equipment was something he enjoyed in his earlier years and he was proud of the work he did.
He often bragged about his part in building roads that we were driving on. George was an accomplished welder and used those skills at various jobs.
In his earlier years, George enjoyed hunting and packing with horses he had.
It was something he talked about often and he shared many stories of his adventures. George’s passion was racing.
He enjoyed circle track racing of just about any kind but his heart was set on drag racing.
He held a drag racing license for many years and he built and raced a variety of cars in Nevada and Idaho.
George is preceded in death by his parents, brother Junior, sister Tish, and step-son Eric. A small service after cremation will be held in Elko, NV.
Friends of George are planning a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
