11/6/1932 – 5/26/2020
Maximillian “Max” Mogus passed away at home on May 26, 2020.
The oldest son of Max and Josephine (Matule) Mogus, Max was born in his Butte, MT house in 1932, and enjoyed a happy childhood surrounded by his large, extended family.
He graduated from Butte Central in 1950, and remained loyal to his Butte roots and Butte friends throughout his life. Blessed with Elvis Presley good looks, a booming voice, and deeply held convictions, if you met Max once, you never forgot him.
Max served in the US Marine Corps from 1950 to 1954, bravely fighting in the Korean War. Upon his return to the states, he met Cecilia Lawler.
They were married for 55 years, lived in MT, CA and NV, and together raised their two daughters, Geri and Cathy.
Max married Mary Smith in 2009 following Ce’s death. Injuries from the war and a work accident left Max partially paralyzed in his younger years.
In 1983, he was healed by the Holy Spirit while attending a Father Ralph DiOrio service.
Max’s miraculous healing, and his willingness to proclaim his story, changed lives and restored the faith of all who were blessed to hear and believe. People really KNEW Max.
He proudly served his country, his God, and also his family and friends. He was a wonderful cook.
Pasties, sauerkraut and kielbasa were just a few of his homemade specialties. His door was always open to hungry visitors, and he always reminded them.
“This is no pot luck – just come.” Max was an avid fisherman, he loved his football, and loved his family even more. Max was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Ce.
He is survived by his daughters Geri Barsanti and Cathy Wood, wife Mary and her family, grandchildren Eric Barsanti, Danielle Barsanti, Meaghan Sullivan, her husband Wesley, & Madeleine Wood, six great grandchildren, brother
Ray, sister and brother-in-law Madeline and Guy Ossello, plus numerous loving family members and friends. Due to COVID restrictions, a celebration of Max’s life will be held at a future date. Memorials may be sent to Saint Paul’s Catholic Church in Winnemucca, NV; the Disabled Veterans of America, or a charity of donor’s choice.
Fare well good and faithful servant. Semper Fidelis. You were loved, you were blessed, and you will be missed.
