The National High School Finals Rodeo was held July 17-23 in Guthrie, Okla, and included athletes from the Humboldt County Rodeo Club.
Cade Bell, who was the Nevada all-around cowboy this year took part in five events during the rodeo.
Bell finished 14th in the saddle bronc average. In his first go-around Bell placed fourth with 52 points, which was good enough for 18th in the first performance. In his second ride, Bell placed third in his go-around and was ninth in the second performance. His 116 points was good enough for 14th overall.
He made it to the short go-around in team roping as well, with partner Jayce Blake. The duo were fifth in their performance with a time of 8.57 seconds, which was 24th in the first performance.
They stopped the clock at 12.34 in the second go-around, which placed them 36th in the second performance. They had a time of 27.89 in the short go-a4ound to place 14th and had an average of 48.80 to place 15th overall.
In steer wrestling, Bell placed eighth in his first go-around at 7.14, which was 46th in the first performance. He improved his time to 6.78 in the second go-around to place 9th and was 39th in the overall second performance. His average was good enough for 28th at 13.92.
Bell had two strong runs in tie-down roping, placing 13th in his go-around in a time of 13.74, which was 44th in the first performance. He had a time of 16.87 in the second go-around, which placed him fifth in the performance and 35th (30.61) in the overall standings.
Bell competed in boys cutting and scored 62 points in the second performance. He did not have a score in the first performance.
Lalo Aguilar competed in bull riding but didn’t have a score in either performance.
