Lovelock Speedway cancels 2020 season

The Lovelock Speedway regretfully announces a change in plans. Due to circumstances beyond their control they must cancel the 2020 season, their 12th.

“We don’t lay the blame on anyone,” said Barbara Macedo. “We will not be racing this summer. We’ll be back next year.”

The Macedo name has been synonymous with the Speedway ever since its first race. Barb and Ed Macedo, their son Jeff, Galen Reese and Brandy Carmichael started the club after the track on the rodeo grounds closed.

They fostered a family-friendly atmosphere with loyal volunteers.

“Everybody needs to head over to Rattlesnake,” said Barb Macedo. They’ll host a points race and I-80 challenge on July 31 (7 p.m.) and Aug 1 (6 p.m.).

According to their web page, Fallon’s Rattlesnake Raceway is the oldest continuously operated oval track in Nevada.

They’re hoping for some big turnouts in a season full of unexpected hurdles.

“Thank you for your patience on our continually changing schedule,” says a Rattlesnake spokesperson. “All northern Nevada tracks are working hard to band together during these trying times. Your support and flexibility are greatly appreciated.”
