BMHS wrestlers compete in Twin Falls

The Battle Mountain High School wrestling team returned to action after taking the New Year’s weekend off.

Making the trip to Twin Falls, Idaho, the Longhorns took on the best the eastern part of Idaho had to offer.

“We took a short break last week and were excited to get back on the mats.,” said BMHS coach Mitch Domagala. “We really like to come to this tournament, it offers us a chance to wrestle some tough competition and begin getting ready for our end of the season push.”

Lyle Whitten lead the way for the Longhorns as he posted a third-place finish. He was followed by Sean Scherer and Alex Jones in fourth place. Jordan Gonzalez and Cody Ostler finished in fifthplace, while Jose Guizar and Jose Guizar both came home with sixth-place finishes.

“We’re starting to turn the corner for where we need to be at this time of the season,” added the coach. “The kids were competitive in all their matches and battled hard so we can build off that.”

Also winning some matches and scoring points for the team, were Declan McClary, Anthony Silva, Asher Bundrock, Scott Wall, Dalton Shake and Brice Domagala.

“Boy these guys are getting close,” Domagala said. “They fight so hard every time out, it shouldn’t be long before they get up on the awards stand.”

The Longhorns travel to Spring Creek this weekend to compete in the annual Kiwanis Invitational. The tournament will feature 33 teams from Idaho and Nevada.

Battle Mountain closes out its tournament schedule on Jan. 24-25 at the Vaquero Invitational.

The Longhorn wrestlers will host the Northern Nevada AA League Duals on Friday, Jan. 31, starting at 1 pm.
