Man ordered drug treatment for grand larceny

Timothy Deboer was recently ordered to complete the Humboldt County Adult Drug Court program and inpatient treatment program on a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to grand larceny in Winnemucca.

Deboer, age 30, admitted to stealing personal property including coins, firearms and ammunition valued in excess of $3,500 from a fellow Winnemucca resident.

The potential sentence for the felony includes one to four years in prison, a maximum $5,000 fine and the eligibility for probation.

Deboer’s attorney Karena Dunn asked the court to sentence her client to probation with restitution to the victim. Dunn explained that she had filed an application for treatment on behalf of her client, but withdrew it after explaining that Deboer isn’t eligible for the diversion program to avoid a felony since he also has possession of a controlled substance category E felony case pending in Pershing County.

Dunn said that her client would like to participate in substance abuse treatment, mentioning the option of completing the six-month Salvation Army program in Reno.

Deputy District Attorney Anthony Gordon agreed that treatment and paying back the victim would be appropriate in the matter.

“I’m just ready to get on with what I did and take everything you guys have to offer me seriously and pay this back,” said Deboer.

Deboer was convicted of grand larceny, a category B felony and ordered to pay $11,990 in restitution along with co-defendant Kyle Hyde, who was previously sentenced.

Deboer was ordered to pay a $3 DNA collection fee, $25 administrative assessment fee and $150 DNA analysis fee.

Deboer was given a 16-72 month prison sentence with 44 days credit for time served, with the sentence suspended on the condition that he completes 16 months of probation.

Terms of Deboer’s probation included completing the Salvation Army inpatient treatment program, followed by the Humboldt County Adult Drug Court Program.

Monthly restitution payments in the amount of $200 per month were ordered to begin following completion of the six-month inpatient treatment program.

If Deboer fails to abide by the terms of his probation, he could be sent to serve the suspended prison term.
