McDermitt boys drop season finale to Eureka

The McDermitt High School boys basketball team concluded its season at home on Friday, Feb. 14, with a 44-36 loss to Eureka. The Bulldogs missed out on the playoffs, finishing 4-8 in the Eastern 1A and 6-17 overall.

The teams traded buckets throughout the first eight minutes of play, with neither team pulling away.

The opening quarter ended in an 11-11 tie, with the Vandals slowly pulling away from there. 

Eureka held McDermitt to just two field goals and four points in the second quarter, but had trouble scoring itself. The Vandals outscored the Bulldogs 7-4 in the quarter to lead 18-15 at halftime.

The advantage increased to four points at the start of the fourth quarter, where Eureka closed out the contest on a 16-12 run to secure the win.

Sophomore Tristan Bitt paced McDermitt with 21 points and six rebounds, while Enrique Villalobos added 10 points and nine rebounds. 

Braeden Ramsey added three points, two rebounds, one assists and a steal and Alex Navarro finished with two points, seven assists, five rebounds and four steals

Steele Crossley had three rebounds and a steal and in his final high school game, Waylon Nino had three steals and two rebounds.
