Lady Bucks cruise to two home league wins over South Tahoe, Dayton

The Lowry High School girls basketball team ended its regular season with a breather, as it prepares for this week’s Northern 3A Regional Championships in Fallon.

The Lady Bucks sent off their three seniors in style, beating South Tahoe 62-25 on Friday night and Dayton 58-9 on Saturday afternoon. Lowry finished the regular season third in the Northern 3A at 13-5 and 15-10 overall.

In the win over South Tahoe, Lowry’s defense stepped up and held the Vikings to single digits in every quarter. 

After getting off to slow starts the last couple of games, Lowry raced out to a 20-5 advantage in the first quarter and increased the lead to 35-10 at halftime.

The Lady Bucks got the contest to a running clock in the final four minutes of the fourth quarter, outscoring the Vikings 16-9 in the fourth quarter.



Lowry crushes 

Dayton

Lowry scored all the points it would need against Dayton in the first four minutes of the contest.

The Buckaroos dominated from the start, leading 20-4 after eight minutes of play. Lowry got the game into a running clock late in the second quarter, with a 23-3 run to lead 43-7 at halftime.

Dayton made just two field goals in the first half and went scoreless in the third quarter, as Lowry increased the lead to 52-7.

Lowry will travel to Fallon on Thursday for the opening round of the Northern 3A Regional Championships. 

The Lady Bucks will play host Churchill County at 4:40 p.m. 

The two teams split their regular season games, with the Greenwave winning 49-46 on Feb. 11, in Fallon. Lowry trailed by 18 points in the game, before coming back to lead late in the game, before Churchill County sealed the win with late free throws.

The two schools had played in the last four regional championship games.

The winner plays Truckee on Friday at 3 p.m.

Spring Creek and Elko play in the other game on Friday at 8 p.m. The winner plays top seed Fernley on Friday at 6:20 p.m. The championship game is Saturday at 2 p.m. at Churchill County High School.
