Regional basketball tournaments tip off this week

The Northern Regional Basketball Championships are under way for area high schools.

Pershing County High School and Lovelock will host the Northern 2A tournament from Thursday through Saturday, while Fallon and Churchill County host the 3A championships.

The McDermitt High School girls basketball team will make the long trip to Las Vegas for its regional tournament. This year the East and South play each other, with the Southern 1A hosting.

McDermitt is the No. 4 seed from the East and will play Southern No. 1 seed Pahranagat Valley on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Basic High School. 

The other half of the bracket has Eureka playing Indian Springs at 3 p.m. at Legacy High School. The two winners play at 3:30 p.m. on Friday at Clark High School.

The bottom half of the bracket has Wells playing Green Valley Christian and Owyhee playing Batty. The two winners meet at 6:20 p.m. at Clark High School.

The championship game is set for noon at Faith Lutheran High School. The two championship teams advance to the NIAA State Championships on Feb. 27-28 at Wooster High School and Lawlor Events Center in Reno.

On the boys side in the East/South regional, Spring Mountain/Eureka and Wells/Pahranagat Valley play in the top part of the bracket and Jackpot/Sandy Valley and Owyhee/Green Valley Christian in the bottom half of the bracket.

The championship is at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Faith Lutheran High School.

The Lowry High School girls basketball team earned the No. 3 seed in the Northern 3A and will play host Churchill County on Thursday at 4:40 p.m. 

The two teams split its regular season series in league play. The winner plays Truckee on Friday at 3 p.m. in Fallon. Lowry also split its season series with Truckee.

Spring Creek and Elko play in the other first-round game on Thursday at 8 p.m. The winner plays regular season champion Fernley at 6:20 p.m. on Friday. 

The two championship teams advance to the NIAA State Championships on Feb. 27-28 at Reno High School and Lawlor Events Center in Reno.

The Lowry High School boys also earned the No. 3 seed and will play Dayton a team it swept this year and just beat in the regular season finale on Saturday in Winnemucca. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. The winner plays Elko on Friday at 4:40 p.m. in Fallon.

South Tahoe and Fernley meet in the other quarterfinal game on Thursday at 6:20 p.m. The winner plays Churchill County on Friday at 8 p.m. The championship is set for 4 p.m. on Saturday.

The two championship teams advance to the NIAA State Championships on Feb. 27-28 at Reno High School and Lawlor Events Center in Reno.

The Battle Mountain boys basketball team will face West Wendover on Thursday at 8 p.m. in Lovelock. 

The winner plays North Tahoe on Friday at 8 p.m.

Yerington and White Pine play at 4:40 p.m. on Thursday in Lovelock, with the winner playing top seed Incline at 4:40 p.m. on Friday. The championship is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday at Pershing County High School.

The two championship teams advance to the NIAA State Championships on Feb. 26-27 at Lawlor Events Center in Reno.

The Battle Mountain and Pershing County girls will renew its rivalry on Thursday at 6:20 p.m. The winner plays top seed Incline at 3 p.m. on Friday.

Yerington and Silver Stage open the tournament on Thursday at 3 p.m. with the winner playing White Pine on Friday at 6:20 p.m. The championship game will tip off at noon on Saturday in Lovelock.

The two championship teams advance to the NIAA State Championships on Feb. 26-27 at Lawlor Events Center in Reno.
