The Battle Mountain High School girls basketball team closed out its regular season with a split of two road games.
The Lady Longhorns cruised to a 38-6 win over Coral Academy on Friday night in Reno. Battle Mountain led 19-0 at halftime and was never challenged in the contest.
Battle Mountain opened the second half on a 14-3 run to cruise to the win.Kaybrie Nield and Brynlee Freeman paced the Lady Longhorns with nine and six points, respectively.
“We played a good game and all kids played a ton,” said BMHS coach Paul Tremayne.

Battle Mountain (16-11 overall, 9-7 Northern 2A) ended the regular season with a 32-31 loss at Yerington. Free throw shooting plagued the Lady Longhorns, going 3-of-18 from the charity stripe on the day.
The Lions held a slim-one point lead after eight minutes of play and extended the lead to 17-7 at halftime, after going on an 11-2 run in the second quarter,
Battle Mountain more than doubled its first-half total with 17 points in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 27-24.
Despite the deficit the entire game, Battle Mountain had its chances to win the game, but could not convert a basket at the end.
Nield led Battle Mountain with nine points and Brooke Ripley added eight.
“We had a couple good looks at the end to win and the ball just would not drop,” added the coach. “The girls played hard but we just had a couple of critical turnovers and missed free throws at bad times. We are looking forward to regionals on Thursday.”
Battle Mountain travels to Lovelock on Thursday for the opening round of the Northern 2A Regional Championships against Pershing County at 6:20 p.m. The winner plays Incline on Friday at 3 p.m. The championship is Saturday at noon.
