McDermitt boys split with Lund, Jackpot

The McDermitt High School boys basketball team split a pair of Eastern 1A games last weekend.
The Bulldogs were on their home floor on Friday, Jan. 31, and beat Lund 53-31. McDermitt’s Alex Navarro (16) Enrique Villalobos (14) and Tristan Bitt (13) all reached double figures in the victory to secure the season sweep over the Mustangs. 
Villalobos had a double-double as he grabbed 14 rebounds to go with two steals and an assist.
Braeden Ramsey added six points, 10 rebounds, four steals and two assists. Steele Crossley and Waylon Nino each had two points.
McDermitt jumped out to a 17-7 advantage in the first quarter and held Lund to four points apiece in the second and fourth quarters to outscore them 22-8.

Jackpot knocks 
off McDermitt
McDermitt (3-6 Eastern 1A. 5-15 overall) made the long trip to Jackpot on Saturday and suffered a 71-24 loss to the Jaguars.
The Bulldogs did not score more than seven points in any quarter and trailed 23-4 after eight minutes of play and 43-11 at halftime.
Freshman Kaden Crutcher and Bitt paced McDermitt with five points apiece. Crossley and Villalobos had four points each and Navarro and Ramsey had two points apiece. Villalobos added 15 of McDermitt’s 26 rebounds.
McDermitt hosted Carlin on Friday and results were not available at press time. The Bulldogs host Owyhee on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. McDermitt closes out the season on Friday, Feb.14, at home against Eureka at 7:30 p.m.
