The teams of the Northern Nevada Division A/AA wrestling world converged on the BMHS gym for duals to determine seeding for this weekend’s Northern League Tournament.
After the whistles stopped it was the boys in green that stood at the top as kings of the mountain.
Battle Mountain’s wrestlers defeated every team that was put in front of them en route to capturing the league duals title.
“We place a lot of emphasis on the team part of wrestling throughout the year. Duals are a great time to show what a team sport wrestling really is,” said BMHS coach Mitch Domagala.
As a team, the Longhorns were in full force this weekend and they completely overwhelmed the competition with a perfect 10-0 record.
“The kids were excited to wrestle in their gym for a change,” added the coach. “They came out focused and never looked back. Now we get ready for the League Tournament this Saturday.”
Declan McClary, Jose Guizar, Kasen Taylor, Cody Ostler, Brice Domagala and Lyle Whitten secured No. 1 seeds heading into the league tournament
Jordan Gonzalez, Jose “B” Guizar, Stone Whitlock, Dalton Shake and Thomas Amezcua will be ranked second.
Sean Scherer and Julio Torres secured third seeds.
Also competing for the Longhorns were: Anthony Silva, Alex Jones, Scott Wall, Asher Bundrock and Tyler Rochester.
The Northern A/AA League Tournament is scheduled for Saturday at Pershing County High School.
The top four finishers in each weight class will qualify for the Nevada State Tournament the following weekend at Virgin Valley High School in Mesquite.
