Obituary: Janet Lee Gastelecutto

Janet Lee Gastelecutto, 87, passed away in Las Vegas, NV on 12/11/2020.

She was born to parents Esther Christison and Cecil Christison, on 02/24/1933 in Mountain Home, ID.

She was the youngest of 7 children.

Janet grew up in Golconda, NV, and after marrying Frank Gastelecutto in 1951, moved to Winnemucca, where they raised two children, Debbie and Ron.

Janet worked for The Western Union, for Nevada Bell as a telephone operator, Hooft’s Bakery, and then as Ward Clerk at Humboldt General Hospital.

After 20 years of service, she retired from Humboldt General Hospital in 1991.

Janet’s life was defined by family connections. She maintained close relationships with all her siblings throughout their lives, and her home was often filled with relatives and laughter.

As the strong matriarch of her own family, she anchored everyone around her during the most difficult times and often reminded them all to “Oh, live a little!” during the good times.

Even as her health declined in her last years, her spirit and sense of adventure were undiminished.

She was always suggesting a road trip or other excursion, wheelchair and oxygen notwithstanding.

She could have been spotted leading the pack from her electric scooter on the beach at Waikiki, posing with family at an overlook at the Grand Canyon, or enjoying a birthday dinner at the Bellagio.

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Gastelecutto, sisters Ruth Sullivan, Demerse Jones, Opal Hansford, Olive Bullock, brothers Gene Christison and Hilton Christison, nieces Carol Mahlstede, and Judy Holbrook, and nephew Danny Sullivan.

Janet is survived by son Ron (Pam) Gastelecutto, their children, Nick and Joe, and great-grandchildren Ethan, Hudson, and Hayes. Daughter Debbie Dugger and her children Josh and Kelly.

Nieces and nephews Harvey Lee Christison, Bobby Fulton-Fitch, Tammy Bullock Barbre, Sharon Hansford, Pam Fabie, Lori Anderson, Bruce Jones, Dolores Dixon, Denny Jones, Vic Christison, Jim Christison, and Susie Christison.

At a later date, Janet will be laid to rest in the Winnemucca Cemetery.
