Roger H. Duarte, 89, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on August 11, 2020, after a long illness.
He was born to parents Jeanne (Crawford) Duarte and John Roger Duarte in Winnemucca, Nevada.
Roger graduated from Humboldt County High School and served on the National Guard with the rank of Sargent Grade E-5.
He married Jean Springer in 1959.
Roger is survived by his daughter Denise R. Duarte and her spouse, Marlene Adrian, nephews John and Andy Duarte and their respective families, his uncle Bill Crawford (Bonnie) and his cousins: Jeannie (Crawford) Colley, Dorothy (Crawford) Caldwell and Craig Crawford.
Roger’s brother, John Robert Duarte passed on October 28, 2020.
Roger was predeceased by his wife, Jean Duarte, his uncle John H. Crawford, his cousins Becky (Crawford) Furgason, Marlene (Crawford) Gandiaga, Dolores (Crawford) Shields, his mother Jeanne (Crawford) Duarte, his father, John Roger Duarte and his grandparents: Joe and Josephine (Rodgers) Duarte and John and Mina (Lucha) Crawford.
Roger left Winnemucca to join the United States Navy after graduating from high school.
Roger met his lifelong best friends, Ed and Lois Beasley in the service during the Korean War.
He was honorably discharged as a Sonarman First Class.
Roger worked for Western Electric at Point Barrow, Alaska on the Distant Early Warning Line (Dewline).
When he returned, he worked for Nevada Bell until retirement in 1994 as the Engineering Manager for Maintenance and Facilities.
Roger loved to play chess and was proud to be the national Nevada Bell Chess Tournament winner one year. Roger’s greatest passion was golf and scored two hole in ones!
He will be interred with his brother, John Robert Duarte, in Winnemucca in a private service.
