Two sentenced to jail on gross misdemeanors

Two individuals were recently ordered to serve jail time on gross misdemeanor charges after hearings in Sixth Judicial District Court before Judge Michael Montero.

Christopher Troy Knight, age 31, pleaded guilty to one count of gross misdemeanor conspiracy to escape in court last Tuesday at an arraignment hearing.

Knight admitted to conspiring with another individual to leave the Nevada Department of Corrections conservation camp while in custody on March 17, 2020, in Humboldt County.

“I left the facility for a little bit,” said Knight.

Knight did not make a statement to the court in his allocution hearing regarding his sentence but did request that the court add alias “Joe Knight Biden” to his name in his file as part of a self-proclaimed “personal spiritual journey.”

“Mr. Knight has been around the block, apparently he is at peace with himself and choosing to want to serve his sentence and I ask that you grant his request,” said Humboldt County Public Defender Matthew Stermitz.

Knight was sentenced to 364 days in jail with 63 days credit for time served and order to serve the sentence and pay a $3 DNA collection fee, $25 administrative assessment and $150 DNA analysis fee.

Daniel Jimenez Flores, age 33, pleaded no contest to one count of gross misdemeanor battery on a peace officer last Tuesday.

The potential penalty for the offense in Nevada is a maximum of 364 days in jail and up to a $2,000 fine.

Stermitz told the court that alcohol was a contributing factor in the incident that occurred on Oct. 20 and that Flores apologized after he found out what had happened as he didn’t remember the event.

“I’m sorry I don’t remember what happened, it was my birthday and I overdrank and I woke up here (jail),” Flores told the court. “I’ll learn from this to be a better person, that’s it.”

Flores was sentenced to the recommended 60 days in jail with 27 days time served and ordered to pay a $3 DNA collection fee, $25 administrative assessment fee and $150 public defender fee.
