Obituary: Eddie Richard Mentaberry

Eddie Richard Mentaberry, 86, of Winnemucca, Nevada passed away, Sunday, November 22, 2020. 

He was born April 14, 1934, in Winnemucca to John and Damiana Goitiandia Mentaberrry. He was the youngest of 9 children.

Eddie attended Winnemucca Grammar School and graduated from Humboldt County High School.

After graduating from high school he returned back to the family ranch in McDermitt where he eventually formed a partnership with his brother George on the ranch. 

Eddie enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. The 4th of July Rodeo and Street Events in McDermitt were also a favorite event of Eddie. 

Work on the ranch was well thought out so they could all attend the big day of events in town with friends. 

He also enjoyed betting on football games and getting together with his friends in McDermitt.

They were all part of the “27” club at the Say When where fun was had by all. His memories of McDermitt were very fond.

While ranching at Washburn Creek Ranch in McDermitt he became involved with his brothers in many mining adventures in the McDermitt area. 

He enjoyed these adventures, and adventures they were!

Eddie was known for his puzzles, pranks and many jokes that he would share with family and friends at reunions and gatherings.

Eddie is survived by his wife Jean of 60 years, and his 2 sons, Tony (Sandralene), of Paradise Valley and Daniel of Winnemucca. 

Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, John and Damiana Mentavery, along, with his 8 brothers and sisters, John Mentaberry (Angela), Mary Yrueta (John), Annie Bengoa (Frank), Fausto Mentaberry (Joyce), Henry Mentaberry (Barbara), Dolores Jones (Albert), George Mentaberry and David Mentaberry.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
